A bit more than one year of the three-year PhD program is allocated to course work and research training. 70 ECTS-credits are reserved for following courses. They are spread over three years of studies as depicted in the table below.
Two years of the three-year PhD program are allocated to your own research. 110 ECTS-credits are reserved for research on the dissertation.

Additionally, students are expected to attend either the Research Seminar in Economic Theory and/or the Econometric Research Seminar. Both seminars have been successfully co-organized by the University of Vienna and the Institute for Advanced Studies for many years. They give students and faculty a good overview of the current trends in economic research.
